Algiers, Algeria- 29August 2016: H.E. Noureddine BOUTARFA, Minister of Energy of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria received Mr. Atef MARZOUK, Interim Executive Director of the African Energy Commission (AFREC) in his office on Monday, 29 August 2016.

H.E. BOUTARFA discussed with Mr. MARZOUK, the various opportunities for enhancing the working relationship between the Algerian Ministry of Energy and the African Energy Commission (AFREC) and the way forward for supporting AFREC to implement energy programme, nomination of the focal point and the involvement of AFREC at the African and Global energy events organized by the Algerian Ministry of Energy.

H.E. BOUTARFA highlighted some issues concerning the energy poverty and renewable energy resources in the continent and the importance to exploit the huge renewable energy potential in the continent to increase the percentage of the energy access in the African continent.

Mr. MARZOUK, reiterated the importance of holding the upcoming training workshop to the new focal points on “Energy Statistics, Data Collection and Construction of National Energy Balances" in Algiers, Algeria
