African Union BRIDGE Training of Facilitator Workshop for the “Autorité Nationale des Elections” opens today in Bangui, Central African Republic

Bangui, 06 March 2017: The African Union Commission (AUC) Department of Political Affairs through its Democracy and Electoral Assistance Unit has commenced a ten-day training of trainers capacity building workshop for the Autorité Nationale des Elections (ANE), using the BRIDGE (Building Resources for Democracy, Governance and Elections) Train the Facilitator (TtF) curriculum.

The training forms part of the AUC’s program on technical capacity building of Election Management Bodies (EMBs) of the AU member states which aims at enhancing institutional capacity of EMBs to organise democratic elections. The training will enable the ANE to create a pool of professional trainers with applied knowledge and skills and capacity to replicate electoral administration training to other election stakeholders.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Francois de Salle Bado, representing the Special Representative of the Chairperson Professor Mohamed El Hacen Lebatt, Head of African Union Mission for Central African Republic and Central Africa (MISAC) highlighted that an affective electoral administration is key for democracy, peace, security as well as the stability which are essential conditions for sustainable development in Africa.

On her part, the ANE Chairperson, Ms. Marie-Madeleine N’kouet Hoornaert, expressed profound gratitude to the African Union Commission for the continuous support to the ANE in particular and to the Central African Republic in general. She called on participants to show dedication and commitment during the course and used their skills to help entrench democracy in the Central African Republic.

The training which begun today will end on Thursday, 16 March 2017.
