The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Congratulates Mrs Audrey Azoulay for Her Election as the New Director General of UNESCO

Addis Ababa, 14 October 2017 – H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat , the Chairperson of the African Union Commission followed with keen interest, the recently concluded election of the post of the Director General of the United Nations Scientific, Educational and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and takes note of the successful election of Madame Audrey Azouley.

Despite the enormous amount of investment made by the Chairperson of the African Union in supporting the African Candidate, Madame Moushira Khattab from the Arab Republic of Egypt, the outcome of the election was not favorable to the African candidate. The Chairperson is optimistic that the challenges related to education, science and culture will be addressed under the leadership of the newly elected Director General of UNESCO.

The Chairperson addresses his warm congratulations to Ms. Audrey Azouley on her successful election. He expresses his full support and commitment to work with her towards the achievement of the noble objectives of the UNESCO.
