Agenda 2063 is the blueprint and master plan for transforming Africa into the global powerhouse of the future. It is the strategic framework for delivering on Africa’s goal for inclusive and sustainable development and is a concrete manifestation of the pan-African drive for unity, self-determination, freedom, progress and collective prosperity pursued under Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance.
H.E. Mr. Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda, was appointed to lead the AU institutional reforms process. He appointed a pan-African committee of experts to review and submit proposals for a system of governance for the AU that would ensure the organisation was better placed to address the challenges facing the continent with the aim of implementing programmes that have the highest impact on Africa’s growth and development so as to deliver on the vision of Agenda 2063.

African Union hosts the annual meeting of UNRIAS and RIAS

Addis Ababa, September 12, 2018- The annual meeting of the Representatives of Internal Audit Services of United Nations (UNRIAS) and the Representative of Internal Audit Services, of Multilateral financial institutions and other associated intergovernmental organizations (RIAS) took place in AU Headquarters from the 10th to 13th September 2018.
The UNRIAS and RIAS are holding this annual meetings to discuss the latest trends in internal audit practice. The 2018 meetings are the 12th and 49th meetings for UNRIAS and RIAS respectively. African Union Commission (AUC) through the Office of Internal Audit (OIA), as a member of RIAS and an observer of the UNRIAS had the privilege to host this time, its first meeting as the deputy chair of RIAS for 2018. This was the place to explain and to share with the other members the knowledge of AU activities, including Agenda 2063 and the 2018 AU theme of the year on wining the fight against corruption, among other.
The overarching objective of the meeting of the ‘‘Representatives of Internal Audit Services’’ was to discuss the latest trends in Internal Audit practices so as to ensure best practice in the internal audit activities of its members. In addition, to ensure that Internal Auditors continuously enhance their knowledge, skills and other competencies through “development and exchange” or sharing. Hence, ensuring adherence to the mandatory guidance which consist of the Definition of Internal Auditing, the Code of Ethics and the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing as drawn by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
During the four days meeting, three groups of RIAS met in working in different sessions: at Plenary, a session with the United Nations and MFI, and the last session was dedicated for Networking of RIAS Members. The outcome of the sessions was to improve the platforms for multidisciplinary and multi-sectorial approach to audit; increased engagement and networking with RIAS members resulting in improved sharing and exchange of information; update themselves with the latest audit practices and procedures; and keeping abreast with the developments in modern practices of internal audit.
The beneficiaries of the meeting including the UN Agencies, international organizations, Multilateral Financial Institutions (African, Asian, American and European Development Banks, World Bank, IMF etc. and the Office of Internal Audit of the African Union Commission were satisfied with the outcome of the meeting.
