Africa’s Premier Infrastructure Event to Run from 26 to 28 November in Zimbabwe

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 10 October 2018: The fourth edition of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) Week will run from 26 to 28 November, 2018 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

Under the theme “PIDA Implementation through Good Governance – Realizing Smart Infrastructure for Africa’s Integration”, the 2018 PIDA Week aims to showcase progress made in implementation of selected PIDA projects and provide a marketing platform to accelerate their implementation.
Speaking ahead of the event, the African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, H.E. Dr. Amani Abou-Zeid said “The upcoming edition of the PIDA Week will bring pivotal changes to the structure of the event with a series of specialized sessions to explore vital future topics including Smart and Integrated Infrastructure Development, Technology, Innovation and Industrialization in infrastructure”.
The Commissioner went on to affirm that the event will also witness updates on the current phase of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), which has almost reached its end.
The 2018 PIDA Week will feature distinguished keynote speakers and panels offering exclusive insights on Project preparation, Resource Mobilization and Financing Mechanisms; Capacity development, Job Creation and Empowerment; Smart and Integrated Infrastructure Development; Technology, Innovation and Industrialization; and Policy, Legal and Regulatory Frameworks.

Panel discussions will feature experts from world leading institutions, government agencies, private firms and consultants advising government and private sector, and academic leaders.

Participants will also get a change to visit Kazungula Bridge, which is a road and rail bridge under construction over the Zambezi river to replace the existing ferry.

Organized by the African Union Commission (AUC), the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency (NPCA), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in collaboration with the Government of Zimbabwe under the auspices of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the 2018 PIDA Week aims to build on the momentum created in the previous three events to continue to engage stakeholders on the effective delivery of infrastructure on the continent.

The event will gather some of the Africa's best minds in the infrastructure world to debate and also improve our overall understanding on smart and integrated infrastructure development and good governance and showcase progress made in implementation of selected PIDA projects and provide a marketing platform to accelerate their implementation. More than 400 participants are expected to participate in the meeting from all over the world, including representatives from the policymaking world, international institutions, Member States, development partners, financial Institutions, private sector, civil society, academia, financiers, leading industrialists, project owners and members of the media.
