Addis Ababa, 14 December 2018 – The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat, received the credentials of H.E. Mrs. Karin Poulsen, the new Ambassador of Denmark, at the AU Commission Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Africa and Europe’s strong commitments to multilateralism, as well as the Kingdom of Denmark’s pledge to the African Union, were at the heart of their conversation.
Chairperson Faki expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the cooperation between Denmark and the AU Commission. He also informed Amb. Poulsen on his participation in the upcoming AU-EU’s dialogue and partnership platforms. The Chairperson will take part in the High level Forum to be held on 17 and 18 December 2018 in Vienna, Austria; and in the AU-EU Ministerial Meeting to be held on 21 January 2019 in Brussels, Belgium. Regarding the latter, which is a follow up of the AU-EU Summit held in Abidjan in November 2017, he stated ‘our hope is that the commitments made in Abidjan will be effectively implemented’.
Ambassador Poulsen confirmed the participation of the Danish Minister of Cooperation at the Vienna High Level Forum. Furthermore, she congratulated the Chairperson for appointing the new AU Youth Envoy. She added that Denmark has a Youth Council and she expects a collaboration between the two entities. Finally, she indicated that her country set aside some funds for the implementation of the Africa Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) next year.
