Addis Ababa, 01 February 2019 – The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat, received the credentials of H.E. Mrs. Yaprak ALP, the new Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey, at the AU Commission Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Prior to her appointment as Ambassador of Turkey to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the AU, Mrs ALP had about twenty years’ experience in diplomacy. She also collaborated with international organisations, as she served in the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Turkey to the European Union (EU), in Brussels (Belgium), and also at the United Nations Office, in Geneva (Switzerland), as well as at the Embassy of her country in Kyiv, Ukraine.
The appointment of H.E. Mrs ALB aims at deepening the longstanding, strong and cordial relationship between the Republic of Turkey and the AU Commission, stressing that the people of Africa and Turkey are the two key locomotives in the relationship. She then unveiled the offer of her country to host the Third (3rd) AU-Turkey Conference in the first quarter of 2020. Finally, she informed that the President of Turkey and the Minister of Foreign Affairs plan respectively, to visit the AU Commission in Addis Ababa and also noted that her country will welcome the visit of the Chairperson to Turkey, at his convenient time.
On his part, the Chairperson welcomed the news of the visit of the two Turkish dignitaries, and took note the invitation to visit Turkey, which details will be finalised in conjunction with his Staff. He also emphasised the presence of many Turkish Embassies in the continent, which shows the interest of Turkey in Africa. The Chairperson also welcomed the proposal to host the 3rd Conference of AU-Turkey in 2020.
