Hon. Amadi succumbed to death on 10 February 2019 in London following long suffering from cancer related illness. He had served as President and Chairman of the Bureau of the PAP between 2012 and 2015.

On behalf of members of Parliament, the Bureau and Secretariat of the PAP, Hon. Roger Nkodo DANG, the current President of the PAP extended deepest sympathies to Hon. Amadi’s family as well as to the government and the people of Nigeria, recalling that it was under Hon. Amadi’s diligent leadership that the PAP grew to be recognized as a critical pillar of the African Union architecture.

“Hon. Amadi has made an indelible mark on who we are today as a continental Parliament and we will keep his legacy of great service and outstanding stewardship alive and well. He was instrumental in ensuring that the guiding principles of the PAP remain intact and that our vision to facilitate an integrated Africa becomes an attainable goal,” Hon. Dang said.

Due to his remarkable contribution to the institutional development of PAP, an Ambassadorial status was conferred on Hon. Amadi in May 2015.

Among other things, staff of the PAP secretariat praise him for his active participation in the validation of the AU legal instruments, review of the PAP protocol, establishment of the Youth Council, as well as the EU-Africa Joint Strategic Partnership.

According to the Amadi Family, the burial proceedings will begin on Monday 1st April 2019 with a service of songs at his residence in Abuja, while his remains will arrive at the National Assembly Complex on Tuesday the 2nd April, proceed to the Ikeduru Diocese on 3 April while two services will be held on Thursday the 4 April at the Ridge Event Centre and Ikeduru, at the Imo State.

The African-Union and Pan-African Parliament flags have been flying at half-mast in Midrand, South Africa; while scores of mourners have been registering their messages on a condolence book since the beginning of the mourning period. A memorial service in honor of his life and legacy was held during the Permanent Committees Sittings earlier this month.

Hon. Bethel AMADI was born on 25 April 1964. He is survived by his wife and children. May his soul and those departed rest in peace!
