In addition to the weekly brief on the spread of COVID-19 and the actions that Africa CDC is taking to help member states, Africa CDC has begun to share a weekly brief detailing the latest changes in scientific knowledge and public health policy changes, as well as updates to the latest guidance from WHO and others. Contents of this document are not intended to serve as recommendations from the Africa CDC; rather, it is a summary of the fact base to help inform Member States. It is important to note that the outbreak is evolving rapidly and that the nature of this information will continue to change. So, we will continue to provide regular updates to ensure member states are informed of the most critical developments in these areas.

Making Vocational Training Work: A Study of Vocational Training in DDR

This report details the findings from a research study of outcomes of the vocational training provided to ex-combatant beneficiaries through the Rwanda Demobilization and Reintegration Programme. Vocational training was found to play an important part in increasing levels of self confidence and self reliance as well as building social capital - irrespective of the particular skill sets learned. The report also emphasizes the apparent value of the provision of literacy & numeracy skills alongside vocational training.

A Comparative Study of Ex-Combatant Reintegration in the African Great Lakes Region: Trajectories, Processes, and Paradoxes

Comparative analysis of ex-combatant reintegration processes in Burundi, DRC, Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda. Highlights the importance of social capital and networks and their restoration as key factors in both the social and economic reintegration of ex-combatants.

Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Programs - An Assessment

Useful report that seeks to systematically explore evidence of the impact of DDR. Report suggests that that in many cases this is limited and that evaluations of DDR programs need to
move beyond its focus on performance and instead focus on impact in terms of building peace. Tools and methods for improving M&E in DDR are suggested.

Report on the Conference on Disarmament, Demobilization, Reintegration and Stability (DDR) in Africa which took place from 21 to 23 June 2005 in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Organized by the Government of the Republic of Sierra Leone and the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA). Specific case studies presented on Angola, Burundi, DRC, Liberia, Mozambique, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe. A summary of key findings and lessons learned is presented on page 11.
