It is the strategic framework for delivering on Africa’s goal for inclusive and sustainable development and is a concrete manifestation of the pan-African drive for unity, self-determination, freedom, progress and collective prosperity pursued under Pan-Africanism and African Renaissance.
H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

The AU-AIP Water Investment Summit 2025, held from 13 to 15 August in Cape Town, Republic of South Africa, mobilised preliminary potential financial commitments estimated at a conservative USD 10–12 billion annually. These investments, pledged by development banks, investors, bilateral partners, and governments, are directed towards the project pipelines showcased at the Summit from across the continent.
The African Union- AIP Water Investment Summit 2025 is being convened in the context of South Africa’s G20 Presidency and will advance efforts towards inclusive and sustainable economic growth and social advancement.
The Information and Communication Directorate, in a collaborative effort with the UNESCO Liaison Office to the AU and UNECA, are working towards developing the first draft of the AU Continental Framework on Information Integrity, Digital, Media, and Information Literacy (MIL).

H.E Lerato, opened her speech by highlighting the persistent issue of energy poverty that affects millions across Africa, with women and girls bearing the disproportionate brunt—often spending hours collecting firewood and charcoal, resulting in health hazards and hampering education and economic productivity.
A key highlight of the summit was the continental keynote delivered by H.E Lerato, on June 12, which drew significant attention from international observers and national governments alike. Her address reaffirmed Africa’s strategic role in the future of green energy, aligning with Africa Union’s Agenda 2063, which envisions an integrated, prosperous, and climate-resilient Africa.
