New senior leadership of the African Union Commission assumes office.

The newly elected African Union Commission Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson and the Commissioners have assumed office today, 13 March 2025, following the handover ceremony that saw the outgoing leadership pass the baton to the incoming leadership. H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission and H.E. Selma Malika Haddadi, the Deputy Chairperson were elected and sworn-in at the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government on 15 February 2025.

H.E. Selma Malika Haddadi (Algeria) is career diplomat and legal expert. She is the former Ambassador of Algeria to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to African Union and United Nations Economic Commission for Africa where she served from 2024. From 2023 to 2024, she served as the Director General of Africa, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad. 2019- 2023, H.E. Haddadi was the plenipotentiary and Extraordinary Ambassador of the Republic of Algeria to Kenya.

The Staff Association of the African Union Commission (AUC), the Office of the Director General and the Dean of Directors at the AUC jointly organized a heartfelt farewell ceremony on 6th March 2025 to honor the outgoing Chairperson, the Deputy Chairperson and the esteemed Commissioners.

The event, held at the AU headquarters was a memorable occasion reflecting on their leadership, significant contributions and achievements during their time in the office.
