Lomé, Togo, 13 October 2016: “The economic value of the Blue Economy for Africa is estimated at over one trillion US Dollars, with hundreds of thousands of job opportunities for young African women and men”. Although exports and imports are processed through our oceans, seas and waterways, we are not receiving the requiste benefits, including the jobs.”

The African Union Commission begins the process of validating SME Strategy and Master Plan 2017-2021

Nairobi, Kenya – 10 October 2016. The African Union Commission (AUC) began today the process of validating the Small Medium Enterprise (SME) Strategy and Master Plan 2017-2021 during a two-day workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. The objective of the initiative is to develop an African Union strategic framework which will support the implementation of the Accelerated Industrial Development of Africa (AIDA) and Africa’s sustainable economic transformation under Agenda 2063.

Commissioner Tumusiime urges AU leaders to champion the cause of aflatoxin mitigation on the continent

October 11, 2016, Entebbe, Uganda – AUC Commissioner for Rural Economy and Agriculture, H.E Tumusiime Rhoda Peace, yesterday urged African leaders to continue to champion the cause of aflatoxin mitigation in order to create policies and an enabling environment that would allow for evidence based action plans to be implemented by various stakeholders.

 

AU Extraordinary Summit of the PRC on Maritime Security, Safety and Development opens in Lomé, Togo

Lomé, Togo, 11 October 2016: Members of the Permanent Representative Committee (PRC) of the African Union (AU) began meeting in the Extraordinary Summit of the Assembly on Maritime Security, Safety and Development on 11 October 2016, in Lomé, Republic of Togo. The members of the PRC examined the Draft African Union Charter on Maritime Security, Safety and Development and recommended it for further consideration by the Executive Council and subsequent adoption by the Summit.
