The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received H.E. Dr. Simone Knapp, Ambassador of Austria to Ethiopia & accredited to the African Union.

They took the opportunity to discuss AU–EU relations - avenues to further strengthen AU–Austria cooperation. The Chairperson emphasized the importance of ensuring a concrete plan of action to implement the outcomes of the AU–EU Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels in May, ahead of the forthcoming AU–EU Summit in Luanda this November.

The global spotlight on women’s role in peace and security firmly shifted to Windhoek, Namibia, the symbolic birthplace of the landmark United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325). The two-day high-level commemoration, "25 Years of 1325: Honouring the Legacy, Advancing the WPS Agenda," concluded as a critical inflection point, with the African Union Commission’s Special Envoy on Women, Peace and Security, H.E. Ambassador Liberata Mulamula, leading the continent’s strategic call for action.

The African Union Commission's Department of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI) convened an official handover ceremony formalizing the transfer of responsibilities to H.E. Prof. Gaspard Banyankimbona, who assumed office as Commissioner for ESTI earlier this month. The ceremony took place at the AU Headquarters, with the handover document encompassing the department's activities and achievements from January 2022 through September 2025.

Durban, South Africa, 10 October 2025 – The African Union Commission and the Department of Electricity of South Africa launched the Africa Energy Efficiency Facility (AfEEF), a flagship legacy of South Africa’s G20 Presidency envisioned to serve as a continental mechanism to mobilise financing, harmonise policies, and scale up energy efficiency projects across Africa.

The AfEEF initiative, which is hosted by the AUC through the African Energy Commission (AFREC) has been launched during the G20 Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) meeting in Durban, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has congratulated the nine African nations that have secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup: Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Senegal, South Africa, Cape Verde, and Ivory Coast.

“I warmly congratulate our nine African teams whose outstanding performances have brought pride and joy to the entire continent,” said the Chairperson. “Their success demonstrates Africa’s growing strength, skill, and unity on the global stage.”
