The African Union International Centre for Girls and Women’s Education in Africa (AU CIEFFA), has convened a strategic workshop to advance advocacy for girls’ education and the eradication of child marriage across the continent with the Pan African Parliament (PAP) and the Secretariat of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD). Held from October 20–21, 2025, in Dakar, Senegal, the workshop is themed: “Pan-African Parliamentarians, Traditional Leaders, and OAFLAD as Advocates for Promoting Girls’ Education and Ending Child Marriage in Africa.”

At this morning's AU Special Envoys & Representatives Retreat in Aswan, Egypt, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, reaffirmed Africa’s resolve to lead with action, responsibility, and sovereignty in addressing shared challenges.

“Africa must no longer react—it must propose, initiate, and guide. This is the Pan-Africanism of solutions,” he said.

He outlined three priorities:

Complete AU reform to build a merit-based and accountable Union.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, congratulates the Kingdom of Morocco on its historic triumph at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, after an impressive victory over Argentina, saying it is a proud moment for Morocco and for African football.

The Chairperson praised the young Atlas Lions for their outstanding performance and spirit, which have brought immense pride to Morocco and the entire African continent.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received H.E. Dr. Simone Knapp, Ambassador of Austria to Ethiopia & accredited to the African Union.

They took the opportunity to discuss AU–EU relations - avenues to further strengthen AU–Austria cooperation. The Chairperson emphasized the importance of ensuring a concrete plan of action to implement the outcomes of the AU–EU Ministerial Meeting held in Brussels in May, ahead of the forthcoming AU–EU Summit in Luanda this November.
