Washington, USA 15 November 2017 – H.E Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), on 15 November 2017, met with Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Head of Mission and African Ambassadors Group while on his first official visit to Washington DC, since he became Chairperson of the AU Commission. During the meeting which took place at the conference room of the AU Mission to Washington dubbed “Africa House”, Chairperson Faki urged the Ministers and Ambassadors to speak with one voice while defending the cause of Africa abroad.

Statement by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on the situation in Zimbabwe

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, is closely following the developments in Zimbabwe. He urges all stakeholders to address the current situation in accordance with the Constitution of Zimbabwe and the relevant instruments of the African Union, including the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance.

The Chairperson of the Commission stresses that it is crucial that the crisis is resolved in a manner that promotes democracy and human rights, as well as the socio-economic development of Zimbabwe.
