2017 PIDA Week to Convene in Namibia

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 20 September 2017- The 2017 Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) Week will be held from 10 to 14 December in Swakopmund, Namibia under the theme “Enhancing Trade and Economic Transformation through Regional Infrastructure Development”.

Organized by the African Union Commission (AUC), the NEPAD Planning and Coordinating Agency (NPCA), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in collaboration with the Namibian Government and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).

Training on Disability Mainstreaming for Senior Government Officials of the AU Member States and AUC Departments and Directorates

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 19 September 2017- A three day training on disability mainstreaming and implementation of the Continental Plan of Action on the African Decade of Persons with Disabilities (2010-2019) for senior government officials of the African Union Member States and AUC Disability Focal Points took place at Capital Hotel and Spa in Addis Ababa.

Joint Communique on United Nations-African Union Memorandum of Understanding on Peacebuilding

On 18 September 2017, the African Union (AU) Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Smail Chergui, and the United Nations (UN) Assistant Secretary-General for Peacebuilding Support, Mr. Oscar Fernandez-Taranco, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on UN-AU partnership in Peacebuilding at the AU Permanent Observer Mission in New York, on the margins of the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly.

The purpose of the MoU is to provide a framework and strengthen cooperation in support of peacebuilding and sustaining peace efforts in Africa.

African Union Ministers of Trade meet to come up with a common position prior to the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 19 September 2017. The African Union Commission in collaboration with the Government of South Africa organized a Special Meeting of African Union Ministers of Trade, on 18 September 2017 in Addis Ababa. The main purpose of the Informal Meeting was to enable Africa to discuss and formulate common positions on current issues of offensive and defensive interest as well as new issues before the 3rd Mini-Ministerial World Trade Organization (WTO) Meeting on 9-10 October 2017 in Marrakech, Morocco and the 11th Ministerial Conference of the WTO (WTO-MC11).

Final Validation workshop on the SADC Regional Cross-border Interconnection Policy framework in Harare, Zimbabwe.

African Union Commission (AUC) through the Africa Internet Exchange System Project organized a workshop in collaboration with Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and Postal & Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) to validate the SADC Regional cross-border Interconnection policy framework. The workshop was facilitated by Nathan Associates who contracted from AUC to develop SADC Regional Interconnection policy framework. Representatives from Member States of SADC were participated in the workshop.

African Union Commission (AUC) through the Africa Internet Exchange System Project organized a workshop in collaboration with East Africa Community (EAC) in Kampala, Uganda to validate the draft EAC Regional cross-border Interconnection regulations. The workshop was facilitated by Nathan Associates who contracted from AUC to develop EAC Regional cross-border Interconnection Regulations. Representatives from EAC Member States and Telecom Operators were participated in the workshop.
