Ninth Pan African Meeting of Directors of Veterinary Vaccine Laboratories Opens

Antananarivo, Madagascar– 29 August 2016: The African Union Commission (AUC) is hosting the Ninth Pan African Meeting of Directors of Veterinary Vaccine Laboratories, which kicked off on 29th August 2016, in Antananarivo, Madagascar. The main objective of the three day workshop is to review the reports from African Union Member States’ vaccine production laboratories, on the status of vaccine production on the continent, achievements and limitations so far.

Introduction and Background

1. On 27 August 2016, the Gabonese Republic will conduct its fifth presidential election since the country adopted multiparty politics in the 1990s. The presidential election which is to be followed by the legislative election in December 2016 will be the first, to be organized with the use of a biometric voter register.

Nairobi, Kenya - 24 August 2016: Preparation for the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-VI) began today with a Senior Official’s Meeting (SOM) at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Nairobi, Kenya. This is the first time since its inception in 1993 that TICAD is being held in Africa and the TICAD VI Summit demonstrates the continent’s ownership of the TICAD process.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - 21 August 2016: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, congratulates all African countries and Africans in the Diaspora that participated in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for their stellar performance.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission sends special congratulations to Kenya, Ethiopia, South Africa, Cote d’Ivoire, Algeria, Burundi, Niger, Egypt, Tunisia and Nigeria who won a total of 43 medals, which includes 9 gold, 17 silver and 17 bronze.

The Joint AU-ECCAS Election Observation Mission held a successful observer orientation programme and met with key stakeholders in Libreville, Gabon

The 9th Steering Committee Meeting of the African Internet Exchange System Project took place on 28 July 2016 at headquarters of ECOWAS in Abuja, Nigeria.
The steering Committee met to discuss the implementation progress & challenges and to provide a strategic advice on the way forward. The members has also visited Abuja Point of presence of Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria. Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria is one of the 8 IXPs supported with grants by AXIS Project so far to grow into Regional Internet Exchange Point.
