Further to a news report broadcast by RFI on May 20, 2024 on the silence of the Chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, on the subject of the Chadian elections, the following must be clearly underlined:

H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

The 10th Forum of the African Union Commission on International Law (AUCIL) commenced today in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia with a distinguished opening session led by AUCIL Chairperson, Prof. Kevin Ferdinand Ndjimba. This included opening statements from the African Union’s (AU) Legal Counsel, Prof. Hajer Gueldich; Deputy Chief of Staff, Cabinet of the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson, Amb. Tordeta Ratebaye; and Representative of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Amb. Reta Alemu. Additionally, a keynote address was delivered by Brigadier General (Prof.) Dan Kuwali.
The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), the legislative arm of the African Union (AU), is forging a closer relationship with the media, in a bid to effectively promote AU policies and programmes and drive a people-centred agenda. The African Union has been keen to rally citizen’s participation in Africa’s agenda. The media plays a critical role in fostering awareness on Africa’s agenda, as well as demanding accountability and transparency from the public and private sectors.
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission H.E Moussa Faki Mahamat was deeply shocked and saddened at the news of the tragic passing of H.E. President Seyed Ibrahim Raisi and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E Dr Hossein Amirabdollahian and their companions in an air accident.
The Institutions present included African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), Shelter Afrique Development Bank (SHAFDB), the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), Africa Risk Capacity (ARC), African Guarantee Fund (AGF), the Africa Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), African Solidarity Fund (FSA), African Guarantee and Economic Cooperation Fund (FAGACE) and AfroChampions.
Progress continues to be realised in Africa towards accelerating the implementation of the Programme of Action for the Implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030.

The Pan African University Institute for Water and Energy Sciences including Climate Change (PAUWES) held its 8th graduation ceremony on May 7th in Tlemcen, Algeria, marking a historic milestone as the first cohort of graduates from the pioneering Climate Change Engineering program received their degrees.
