PIDA Week: Private and public sector partnerships key to unlocking Africa’s infrastructure funding

Cairo, Egypt, 26 November 2019– The 2019 Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA) Week opened in Cairo, Egypt on Monday with a clarion call from key players in the infrastructure sector for enhanced partnerships between the public and private sectors to develop the continent’s infrastructure to spur industrial growth and employment creation.

They agreed that greater economic activity, enhanced efficiency and increased competitiveness on the continent were continually being hampered by inadequate transport, communication, water and power infrastructure.

Addis Ababa – Ethiopia. November 21, 2019. Mr. Thomas Oppermann, Vice-President of the German Parliament called on H.E Mr. Kwesi Quartey, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission at AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa.

Welcoming Mr Oppermann, the Deputy Chairperson asked the Vice-President to convey his warm greetings and admiration to Her Excellency Angela Dorothea Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, for the bold decision she took, at huge political cost to herself and her party to open the doors of Germany to refugees.

The African Union Commission (AU) announces the arrival of an Election Observation Mission, for the 24 November 2019 Presidential election in the Republic of Guinea Bissau. At the invitation of the Government of Guinea Bissau, the President of the AU Commission, His Excellency Moussa Faki Mahamat decided to deploy this Mission to asses and report on the conduct of this election.

During this visit, the Chairperson held discussions with President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s and his new Cabinet at a Cabinet Retreat outside the capital Gaborone, following recent general elections in the country.
