On 30 September 2021, the Republic of Mauritius became the thirteenth (13th) member state to deposit the instrument of ratification of the African Medicines Agency (AMA). The country signed the Treaty on the 21 September 2021 in Addis Ababa and ratified the same day in Port Louis, Mauritius.

The AUC Chairperson noted that the PRC will discuss key issues, among which are: the Report of the sub-committee on budget that includes the 2022 budget of the Union; Partnerships and the need to develop a strategy for all partnerships; Operationalization of the Africa CDC which is an urgent and vital issue with regard to health and security; and the Mid-term evaluation of the theme of the year 2021.

The African Union (AU) through the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) continues to lead the continent in the fight against the COVID19 pandemic.
Since its outbreak, the viral infection has affected economies and millions of families, leading to a change in the customary way of living life. With several member states left dealing with the disease, the Africa CDC has continued to lead the fight against the pandemic by supporting several governments in several ways, including through the acquisition and distribution of vaccines.
Africa CDC has now distributed 4.4 million J&J vaccines to AU member states A total of 400 million to be distributed

The African Union (AU) through the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) together with the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) are set to move a step further to reaching their target of vaccinating at least 60 percent of the population, as they continue to lead the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic on the African continent.
Through the AVAT, several African countries continue to receive vaccines from all over the world, as the fight against the pandemic continues.
