Addis Ababa, 7th May, 2018 - The Department of Trade and Industry is organizing the Dedicated Session of the African Continental Free Trade Area Negotiating Forum and Legal Experts from 30 April – 12 May, 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The objective of the Meeting is to undertake Legal Scrubbing of the Annexes to the Protocol on Trade in Goods, and the Annexes to the Protocol on the Rules and Procedures on the Settlement of Disputes.

The 31st Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) will take place from 25th June to 2nd July 2018, under the theme “Winning the Fight against Corruption: A Sustainable Path to Africa’s Transformation”.

The Summit will be held in Nouakchott, the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, as follows:

25th – 26th June 2018: 36th Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee

28th – 29th June 2018: 33rd Ordinary Session of the Executive Council

Kwesi Quartey today held bilateral talks with Heiko Maas, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Deputy Chairperson congratulated Minister Maas on his appointment and welcomed his presence at the African Union headquarters; his first visit to Africa since his appointment. Both leaders underscored the importance of multilateralism in the socio-economic development of Africa and Europe.

The High Level Meeting on Public Financial Management Kicked Off Today

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, May 3, 2018: A High level meeting of the African Union and the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) kicked off today at the African Union Headquarters. The meeting bringing together senior officials and technocrats in the region, will deliberate on the management of public sector resources and need for better financial reporting by governments, particularly with the increasing need for effective corporate governance and efficient Public Financial Management (PFM).
