THEME: FINANCING INFRASTRUCTURE IN AFRICA

LOME, TOGO, 13 -17 MARCH 2017

 

  1. The African Union Commission (AUC), in collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Togo, the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) is organizing the first meeting of the AU Specialized Technical Committee (STC) on Transport, Transcontinental and Interregional Infrastructures, Energy and Tourism which will be held in Lomé, Togo from 13 to 17 March 2017.

    The main objective of the STC meeting is to assess the progress and achievements attained in the implementation of major regional and continental infrastructure programmes and projects to-date and adopt decisions on the way forward towards their accelerated implementation.

     

    The specific objectives are to:

     

    ·         Review the implementation status of the Decisions and Declarations adopted at the previous ministerial conferences and African Union (AU) Assembly sessions on transport, energy and tourism;

    ·         Evaluate the progress made by major regional and international institutions in financing and investing in regional projects in the energy, transport and tourism sectors, especially those in the Priority Action Plan of the Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA-PAP) and other flagship projects under the AU Agenda 2063;

    ·         Analyse ways of increasing domestic and regional financial resources for funding regional transport, energy and tourism projects;

    • Adopt updated action plans for infrastructure programmes and initiatives to be undertaken for the period 2016-2018 at regional and continental levels.

     

    Participants will include Ministers responsible for energy, transport (i.e. air, railway, road and maritime) and tourism as well as the experts from AU member States, African Union (AU) Specialised Institutions, International Organizations, development partners, private sector and civil society dealing with Energy, Transport and Tourism.
