The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, this morning convened members of his Cabinet to bid farewell to his long-time colleague & friend, H.E. Amb. @souefmo_elamine, the outgoing Chief of Staff of the Commission, who has been appointed as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Central Africa.

The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has learned with deep sadness of the passing of H.E. Manuel Domingos Augusto, former Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Angola, distinguished diplomat, and a committed Pan-Africanist.

The AUC Chairperson extends his heartfelt condolences, on behalf of the African Union Commission, to the Government and people of the Republic of Angola, as well as to the bereaved family, friends, and colleagues of the late diplomat.

African Union Commission is deeply concerned by reported security developments in Mogadishu, including armed clashes in civilian areas.

The Commission calls on all parties to immediately stop the fighting and exercise maximum restraint, protect civilians, and refrain from actions that could further escalate tensions.

The Commission urges all Somali stakeholders to resolve differences through dialogue and established constitutional processes.

Today, at the opening session of the 52nd Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC), AUC Chairperson H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf highlighted the Committee’s critical role in advancing the Union’s agenda and laying the groundwork for the forthcoming Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (MYCM) between the AU, Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and Regional Mechanisms (RMs), to be held in Egypt later this month.
