Fellow Africans,

As in previous years, this November 25, we celebrate the International Day dedicated to the fight against all forms of gender-based violence, that is to say violence of which women and girls - who are also our mothers, our wives, our sisters and our children-  are regularly subjected to.

In accordance with a well-established tradition, this commemoration will continue through a global awareness-raising campaign. It will last until December 10, 2021, another symbolic date dedicated to the celebration of human rights.

The African Union (AU) Humanitarian Symposium was initiated in 2010, as a forum that brings together the AU Commission, Member States and Partners to deliberate and exchange views on pertinent issues impacting on the humanitarian situation in the continent.

This year, the 9th Humanitarian Symposium is dedicated to the preparations for the 2022 Continental Humanitarian Summit to be convened in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.

Governments need to implement multi hazard governance and coordination pathways towards reducing disaster risk. This was the prominent key message coming out from the 8th Africa Regional Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (AfRP). The virtual event took place 16-18th November 2021at the senior officials level. The

Platform was followed by the 7th High Level/Ministerial Session that took place on 19th November in Nairobi, Kenya.

ABOUT THE PRIZE

For the very first time, the AUCIL is launching its 1st PhD Thesis Award to PhD holders with outstanding works in the field of International Law (Focus on Africa, particularly African Union Law).

The prize is intended to facilitate the publication of a PhD thesis of outstanding quality on a subject of general interest and likely to make a real contribution to the study of African Union Law. The AUCIL PhD Prize winner will get his/her work published and disseminated by a well-known Publisher.
