This was the rallying call at a meeting of representatives of Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in Africa, the African Union Commission (AUC), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and partners held from 9th to 12th November in Djibouti City.

Addis Ababa, 12 November 2021: The Chairperson of the African Union  Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has continued to monitor political developments in Sudan following the military takeover on 25 October 2021, and in particular, the recent appointment of a new Sovereign Council.
 
The Chairperson notes with regret that political actors are still far from reaching consensus on  a democratic transition thereby not responding to the aspirations of the people of Sudan in line with the AU Peace and Security Council at its 1041th meeting of 26 October 2021.

Labour Migration Governance partners in Africa pledge to strengthen cooperation

Representatives of partners implementing the AUC-IOM-ILO-ECA Joint Labour Migration Programme (JLMP) met virtually on November 3 to assess progress and plan the next steps to expand the continental initiative.

The multi-partner initiative was launched in June 2018 to strengthen the regulation of labour migration and mobility for inclusive economic growth and regional integration on the African Continent, with JLMP Priority - the first phase of the programme - funded by the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) for 9 million USD expected to come to an end this year.
