H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, received in audience Dr. Donald Kaberuka, the African Union High Representative for Financing the Union.
Discussions centered on strengthening the AU Peace Fund to advance Africa’s goals for lasting peace and development. A major focus was the funding mechanisms for the African Union Assistance Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). Both parties agreed that the AU Commission would mobilize all necessary political efforts to ensure AUSSOM’s successful implementation.

Ministers of Foreign Affairs and heads of delegations from the Member States of the African Union (AU) converged today at the headquarters of the AU in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for the official opening of the 24th Extra-Ordinary Session of the Executive Council. The opening session was chaired by H.E. Tete Antonio, Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Angola and Chairperson of the Executive Council in the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) representative, H.E.
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received H.E. Luisa Fragoso, Ambassador of the Republic of Portugal to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union.
The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, received H.E. Simeon Oyono, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, in an audience.
The Minister conveyed to the Commission Chairperson the congratulatory message from H.E. President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, along with his commitment to support him in the exercise of his duties.
He also briefed the AU Commission Chairperson of the advanced preparations for the mid-year coordination meeting planned for Malabo in July.

Ben Marc Diendere J.K., representing Canada to the African Union, and the representative of H.E. Simone Knapp, Ambassador of Austria to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and representative to the African Union.
The Chairperson welcomed the AUPG's structured coordination, highlighting its transparency and operational efficiency.

The two leaders highlighted the importance of addressing the challenges of the AU's financial sovereignty, infrastructure, and continental connectivity.
The Minister provided an overview of Burundi's overall situation, both domestically and regionally.
