African transport ministers, road transport authorities, heads of road safety agencies, and experts have called for urgent and intensified action to address the continent’s road safety crisis. The call came during a high-level ministerial panel discussion held on the margins of the 5th Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Specialised Technical Committee on Transport and Energy (STC-TE). Organized by the African Union Commission as one of three official side events, the panel was themed "Advancing Africa's Road Safety Agenda: From Commitments to Implementation."

During his visit to the Republic of South Africa this week, the Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, visited Freedom Park, a national heritage site & memorial dedicated to those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for freedom.

The Chairperson appreciated the Park’s powerful role in preserving historical memory, fostering reconciliation, & celebrating the resilience & diversity of the leaders & individuals whose courage helped shape a better world.

In partnership with The African Union, the launch of the African-European Museum Partnership (AEMP) was welcomed today at Headquarters.The €19.9 million initiative supported by the The European Union and its Member States - Belgium, France, Germany, and the Netherlands.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, welcomes the successful conclusion of the elections of the President and Members of the Bureau of the Pan-African Parliament, held in Midrand, Republic of South Africa.

He extends warm congratulations to H.E. Fateh Boutbig on his election as President, as well as to the newly elected Members of the Bureau representing all regions of the continent.

At the margins of World Press Freedom Day 2026 in Zambia, the AU Information and Communication Directorate, in partnership with UNESCO liason office to the AU and UNECA, will host a high-level stakeholder consultation session to validate the draft Continental Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Framework.
