The Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) at its 39th Ordinary Session held on 14 February 2026, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, has adopted as theme for the year, “Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.”

The Thirty-Nineth (39th) Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) kicked off today at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, with a strong call for African solidarity, financial independence, and a collective push to shape the global agenda.
