High-Level Ministerial Panel Calls for Accelerated Action on Road Safety across Africa

African transport ministers, road transport authorities, heads of road safety agencies, and experts have called for urgent and intensified action to address the continent’s road safety crisis. The call came during a high-level ministerial panel discussion held on the margins of the 5th Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Specialised Technical Committee on Transport and Energy (STC-TE). Organized by the African Union Commission as one of three official side events, the panel was themed "Advancing Africa's Road Safety Agenda: From Commitments to Implementation."

The Pan-African Parliament (PAP), the legislative organ of the African Union (AU), has successfully concluded its Extraordinary Session of the Seventh Legislature, held from 28 to 30 April 2026 at its headquarters in Midrand, South Africa, with the election of a new Bureau to lead the institution for the next three years.

African Transport and Energy Ministers Endorse Two Continental Policy Frameworks to Transform Mobility Across Africa

Transport and Energy Ministers from across Africa endorsed the Pan-African Action Plan for Active Mobility (PAAPAM) and a Continental Framework on Electric Mobility at the 5th Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Specialized Technical Committee on Transport and Energy (STC-T&E). The two frameworks aim to tackle the continent’s rising transport-related road deaths, air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions by scaling investment in walking, cycling and electric vehicles.

AU Peace Fund’s Independent Evaluation Group, Strengthening Oversight and Advancing Strategic Coordination

The Independent Evaluation Group (IEG) of the AU Peace Fund convened its Second Statutory Meeting to review the status of the Peace Fund, assess ongoing Peace Fund-supported projects, and preparations for the upcoming Joint Retreat with the Board of Trustees (BoT), Executive Management Committee, and other governance stakeholders.

The meeting, which was held virtually on 1st April 2026, reaffirmed the IEG’s central role in strengthening oversight, transparency, accountability, and independent evaluation across the Peace Fund’s operations.
