Communique following the meeting of the Heads of International Election Observation Mission to the Fresh Presidential Elections in Kenya

Nairobi- 27th of October 2017

We the Heads of the undersigned international observer missions present in Kenya issue this communiqué on the election rescheduled for the 28th of October.

We note the decision of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to postpone polling in Homa Bay, Kisumu, Migori and Siaya counties, based on article 55b of the electoral law.

Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, continues to follow with concern the recent political developments in the Republic of Kenya following the Supreme Court ruling annulling the 8 August 2017 presidential election and the subsequent scheduling of fresh presidential election for 26 October 2017.

African Union deploys Long Term Experts and Short Term Election Observers to the Republic of Kenya’s fresh presidential election on 26 October 2017

Addis Ababa, 3 October 2017: As the Republic of Kenya prepares for fresh presidential election on 26 October 2017, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, will deploy an African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) to Kenya.
The deployment of the AUEOM takes place in two phases. The first phase comprises five (5) election experts and takes place from 24 September – 9 November 2017. This is to ensure that the AUEOM conducts a comprehensive observation and analysis of all relevant aspects of the electoral process.
