Communique following the meeting of the Heads of International Election Observation Mission to the Fresh Presidential Elections in Kenya

We the Heads of the undersigned international observer missions present in Kenya issue this communiqué on the election rescheduled for the 28th of October.
We note the decision of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to postpone polling in Homa Bay, Kisumu, Migori and Siaya counties, based on article 55b of the electoral law.
An Appeal for Peaceful Polls and Compliance with the Rule of Law during the Fresh Presidential Elections in Kenya
The Fresh Presidential Election in the Republic of Kenya will take place tomorrow, 26 October 2017. As you are aware, the fresh election was ordered by the Supreme Court in its September 1, 2017 ruling on the presidential election petition.
Briefing by the Head of the African Union Election Observers Mission to the Fresh Presidential Election
H.E Mr.Thabo Mbeki, former President of the Republic of South Africa and Head of the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) to the Fresh Presidential Election in the Republic of Kenya, which are scheduled to take place on 26 October 2017 will brief the Media Representatives on Wednesday 25 October at 2:00 PM in Crowne Plaza Hotel.

African Union calls for a peaceful resolution of disputes in Kenya ahead of the Fresh Presidential Election
Addis Ababa, 4 October 2017: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission H.E. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, continues to follow with concern the recent political developments in the Republic of Kenya following the Supreme Court ruling annulling the 8 August 2017 presidential election and the subsequent scheduling of fresh presidential election for 26 October 2017.
African Union deploys Long Term Experts and Short Term Election Observers to the Republic of Kenya’s fresh presidential election on 26 October 2017
Addis Ababa, 3 October 2017: As the Republic of Kenya prepares for fresh presidential election on 26 October 2017, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, will deploy an African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) to Kenya.
The deployment of the AUEOM takes place in two phases. The first phase comprises five (5) election experts and takes place from 24 September – 9 November 2017. This is to ensure that the AUEOM conducts a comprehensive observation and analysis of all relevant aspects of the electoral process.
