Addis Ababa, 5th July 2017: As the Republic of Kenya prepares to hold General Elections on 8th August 2017, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, has authorized the deployment of the African Union Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) to Kenya to observe the country’s general elections scheduled for 8th August 2017.

Nairobi 5th July 2017 -The Department of Political Affairs (DPA) of the African Union Commission in collaboration with the National Independent Electoral Commission (NIEC) of Somalia has concluded a three-day BRIDGE (Building Resources in Democracy, Governance and Elections) training workshop on Electoral Systems.

The BRIDGE workshop took place from 3-5 July 2017 in Nairobi, Kenya. It consisted of twenty participants comprising senior NIEC officials as well as policy makers involved in the constitution-making process as well as the drafting of the electoral law.

International Partners Visit Drought-Hit Horn of Africa, Pledge Support

Nairobi, 13 June 2017: International partners have made financial pledges in support of humanitarian response efforts in the drought-hit Horn of Africa after a visit to Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya.

A delegation led by the African Union and the United Nations concluded a six day visit to the Horn of Africa in Nairobi, Kenya on Tuesday, after visiting drought-affected communities in Ethiopia and Somalia. It included representatives from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, the African Development Bank, the USAID Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance and the World Bank.

Nairobi, Kenya – 24 April 2017. The African Union Commission is organizing the Second Meeting of the Continental Free Trade Area (CFTA) Technical Working Groups from 24 April to 5 May 2017 in Nairobi. The objectives of the Meeting are amongst others, to provide inputs to the relevant annexes and appendices of the draft CFTA Agreement for the Negotiating Forum’s consideration. It is also to provide the experts with an overview of the draft legal text and appendices which will be used as inputs to the negotiations.
