Final Validation workshop on the EAC Regional Cross-border Interconnection Regulations in Kampala, Uganda.

African Union Commission (AUC) through the Africa Internet Exchange System Project organized a workshop in collaboration with East Africa Community (EAC) in Kampala, Uganda to validate the draft EAC Regional cross-border Interconnection regulations. The workshop was facilitated by Nathan Associates who contracted from AUC to develop EAC Regional cross-border Interconnection Regulations. Representatives from EAC Member States and Telecom Operators were participated in the workshop.
The African Internet Exchange System (AXIS) project aims to keep Africa’s internet traffic local to the continent by providing capacity building & technical assistance to facilitate the establishment of National Internet Exchange Points and Regional Internet Exchange Points in Africa. The project is also supporting East Africa Community to develop EAC cross-border Interconnections Regulations.
It is recalled that Validation of the draft Baseline Report on EAC Regional Interconnection Regulations was conducted in Nairobi, Kenya from March 27, 2017 to March 29, 2017 and was advised to proceed development of the draft EAC regional cross-border Interconnection Regulations. Hence, this final validation workshop aimed to validate the draft Regulations.
Through the 3 days’ workshop with intensive discussions, participants have reviewed and validated the draft regulations. The secretariat has also presented the way forward that includes addressing some issues raised during the workshop.

Participants: Delegations from all Partner States (Burundi, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda), East Africa Community (EAC) Secretariat, the African Union Commission (AUC), East African Communications Organization (EACO), telecom operators from the Partner States, and Nathan Associates (Consultant).
