Second Ordinary Session of the AU-STC 8 on Public Service, Local Government, Urban Development and Decentralization

Addis Ababa, 7th December 2016 :- The Department of Political Affairs ( Secretariat of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee (AU-STC 8) on Public Service, Local Government, Urban Development and Decentralization) is pleased to announce the commencement  of the  Second Ordinary Session of the African Union Specialized Technical Committee (AU-STC 8) on Public Service, Local Government, Urban Development and Decentralization  on Wednesday 7th December 2016 at the Headquarter of  the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 

The meeting’s overall objective is to provide a common platform for Ministers of Public Service and Administration; Decentralization and Local Government; and Housing and Urban Development respectively and their senior officials to review progress on the implementation the STC 8 two-year work plan and deliberate on specific issues pertaining to the three subcommittees with regards to human and financial resource mobilization towards the smooth functioning of the STC 8.

 

 

Speaking on behalf of the Director for Political Affairs, Mr. Dare Olabisi, Head, Humanitarian Affairs, Refugees and Displaced Persons welcomed delegates and enjoined all present to commit towards the actualization of the set goals and objectives during the two-day meeting. He spoke on the challenges ahead of the STC 8 and expressed confidence in the delegates’ ability to discuss and make robust recommendations that will enrich and strengthen the smooth functioning of the STC 8.

Delivering his opening remark,  Mr Olossoumaré Abasse, Director General of Local Collectivities of  Benin and Vice Chair of the Bureau of the STC n⁰8  thanked the delegates for their commitment towards the operationalization of the STC and its Sub-committees and informed them  that this 2nd Ordinary Session of the STC offers an opportunity to assess progress made in the implementation of recommendations from the Brazzaville session held in November 2014, also that the forthcoming election of a new bureau  which will take place during the session will reinforce the dynamic set up since. .

The session continues with Experts Meetings, Ministerial Conference and will close with the 2016 All Africa Public Service Innovation Award (AAPSIA) Gala on the 9 December 2016.
