Addis Ababa, 30 March 2022: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, was shocked to learn of the attack on a passenger train between Abuja-Kaduna on 29 March 2022.

The Chairperson condemns in the strongest terms this heinous act which led to the tragic loss of life of passengers and left others declared missing.

The Chairperson extends his sincere condolences to the bereaved families and wishes a full recovery to the injured.

The Chairperson urges the Nigerian authorities to take all necessary measures to ensure that the missing passengers are found, and the perpetrators of these heinous acts are brought to account.

The Chairperson reaffirms the solidarity of the African Union with the government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria during this difficult time.
