H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

The purpose of the African Union Accountability Framework on the elimination of harmful practices in Africa is to ensure that good performance measurement and monitoring practices are in place to track progress on the elimination of harmful practices by AU Member States.The Framework is a result of a request to the Commission by AU Heads of State and Government, emanating from AU Assembly Decision Assembly/AU/Dec.737(XXXII) on “Galvanizing Political Commitment Towards the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation in Africa.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf welcomes the signing of the Peace Agreement concluded on 19 April 2025 in N’Djamena between the Government of the Central African Republic and the armed groups Unité pour la Paix en Centrafrique (UPC) and Retour, Réclamation et Réhabilitation (3R), as part of efforts to revitalize the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in the Central African Republic (APPR-RCA).
The African Union Commission, through its Department of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI), wishes to inform the African Union Member States, education stakeholders, and all concerned partners and individuals that the event being promoted as the “AU EDUCATION SUMMIT 2025” is not an initiative of the African Union, not is it endorsed, organised or affiliated by the African Union Commission, or any of its departments or organs.
The Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) successfully concluded its flagship annual Citizens’ Forum (4th edition), under the theme, “Reimagining Democracy and Advancing Reparative Justice: A New Social Contract.”

Évariste Ndayishimiye, President of the Republic of Burundi and African Union Champion for Youth, Peace and Security, as his Special Envoy for the Sahel region.
The Chairperson of the African Union is most grateful to H.E President Évariste Ndayishimiye for accepting this strategic political assignment in the collective interest of the Union.
The Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, today received H.E. Amb. Rose Kashembe Sakala, the outgoing Ambassador of Zambia to Ethiopia & Permanent Representative to the AU. He commended her for her dedicated service & valued contributions to AU reforms & institutional priorities.
The Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, bid farewell to H.E. Dr. Mohamed Omar Gad, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the AU. The Chairperson commended Amb. Gad’s steadfast engagement in AU deliberations, notably on peace and security, institutional reform, and sustainable financing. They also exchanged views on enhancing African agency in diplomacy & mediation & multilateral cooperation.
