At today’s High-Level Event on Financing #AUSSOM on the sidelines of #UNGA80, co-convened by the Government of #Somalia, the AU, the @UN, & the United Kingdom, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, commended Somalia’s remarkable progress; from debt relief to UN Security Council membership, as well as the sacrifices of AU forces & partners.

He cautioned, however, that despite these gains, fragility persists, Al-Shabaab continues to threaten peace, & Somalia cannot shoulder this burden alone.

At the Ministerial Meeting on #Sudan, co-convened by the African Union & the European Union on the margins of #UNGA80 in New York, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the AU Commission, reiterated the urgent imperative of an immediate #ceasefire as a prerequisite for unhindered humanitarian assistance, while underscoring that an inclusive, Sudanese-owned dialogue remains the only credible avenue towards a sustainable resolution of the conflict. He further apprised participants of the AU-led Global Political Dialogue to be launched in October.

AUC Chairperson emphasised that “reforming the international financial system is no longer optional, but an urgent imperative.”

ClimSA Continues to Build Africa’s Climate Resilience Through Training Member States

The African Union Commission’s (AUC) ClimSA programme convened a training workshop this quarter to member state experts on the use and maintenance of the new PUMA 2025 (Preparation for the Use of Meteosat in Africa) and ClimSA (Climate Services and Applications) stations. The training targets sub-Saharan African countries, including African Island States, whose National Meteorological Services have received the new stations.

The African Union Commission through the financial support of the European Union is investing in 49 sub-Saharan Countries in the form of new Climate and Weather equipment’s better known to the Meteorology community as ClimSA 2025 and PUMA Stations. These systems are the backbone systems that will allow the expert at the African Meteorology Institutions to receive, process, and use high quality weather and climate data for decision making to save lives and live hoods of the citizens.
