Addis Ababa, 10 August 2018: Today, Africa commemorates the First African Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Day under the theme “Promoting Innovative Universal Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Systems for Good Governance and Better Lives”.

Starting 2018, African CRVS Day will be celebrated every year on the 10th of August, to increase public awareness of the importance of making all African people visible wherever they live, through well-functioning civil registration and vital statistics systems.

Addis Ababa, 9 August 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, followed with interest President Alassane Ouattara's address on the occasion of the 58th anniversary of the independence of Côte d’Ivoire. He notes with satisfaction the courageous measures he has announced. These will greatly contribute to the consolidation of the remarkable achievements made by Côte d'Ivoire since the end of the post-electoral crisis of October 2010.

Consultative meeting on promotion of regional integration in the management of tsetse and trypanosomosis in ECCAS region, Libreville, Gabon, 6 - 7 August 2018

A Consultative workshop on Promoting Regional Integration in the Control of Tsetse and Trypanosomosis (T&T) in the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) took place on 6-7 August 2018 at Ngonemono Hotel, in Libreville, Gabon. The meeting was attended by ECCAS member states, including Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, DRC and Chad. In addition, three staff members from the AU-PATTEC coordination office, a consultant from ECCAS, a non-tsetse transmitted trypanosomosis expert and the Livestock Director of CEBEVIRHA attended the meeting.

Abuja, Nigeria, 07 August 2018 – The African Union Commission (AUC) is currently holding a High Level Stakeholders Engagement Round Table on the Accelerated Industrial Development for Africa (AIDA) Monitoring and Evaluation Framework and Reporting system. AIDA is a continental strategy for industrial development that was endorsed by the HOGs in 2008, and has been under implementation by member states.

Addis Ababa, 9 August 2018: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, notes with satisfaction the key milestone attained yesterday in the electoral process in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He welcomes the fact that President Joseph Kabila Kabange has honored his commitment to abide by the relevant provisions of the Congolese Constitution and those of the New Year's Eve Political Agreement on eligibility for the presidency of the Republic. In so doing, President Kabila has made a gesture of high political value in the best interests of his country.

Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission concludes official visit to the Caribbean.

Kingston, Jamaica; 7th August 2018: The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Amb. Kwesi Quartey, has concluded a series of visits to the Caribbean that included stops in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Jamaica. During his tour, he held talks with government officials, met representatives of the Africans in diaspora community and led emancipation commemoration events.
