H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

Ministers in charge of Gender and Women’s Affairs are scheduled to convene on the 27 of November 2020, to deliberate and adopt decisions on accelerating actions on gender equality and women’s right on the continent.
The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), a specialized entity of the African Union (AU), supports African countries in the area of credit rating agencies. As part of this mandate, the APRM undertakes routine reviews of rating opinions of African countries issued by international credit ratings agencies. Accordingly, the APRM has noted the downgraded by the two dominant international credit rating agencies – Fitch and Moody’ – on the 20th of November 2020 on the Government of South Africa’s long-term foreign currency credit rating.

The commemoration of Africa Industrialisation Week kicked off on Monday, 16th November, 2020, virtually. The week was commemorated under the theme: Inclusive and Sustainable Industrialisation in the AfCFTA Era. The weeklong event was organized by the African Union Commission (AUC), AUDA-NEPAD, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and the AfroChampions Initiative.

The Republic of Seychelles becomes the fourth AU member states to ratify the Treaty for the establishment of the African Medicines Agency (AMA) on 13th August 2020, in Victoria, Seychelles and deposited the instrument of accession to the Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union on 23rd November 2020 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Despite several existing policies, mechanisms and platforms to advance the inclusion of women in the democratic governance and peacebuilding processes, the number and level of women involvement in these processes remain worryingly negligible.
