The Permanent Observer Mission of the African Union (AU) to the United Nations (UN) On November 26, 2025, hosted a one-day retreat for the African Group of Permanent Representatives to the UN. The retreat provided a platform to deliberate and exchange views on the UN80 Initiative, under the theme: “Strategic African Response to the UN80 Reform Initiative.” Participants included Deputy Permanent Representatives (DPRs), experts, African Group Coordinators of United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) Committees, and staff from the AU Permanent Observer Mission.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, extends his warmest congratulations to the Government and people of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania on the occasion of the anniversary of their independence.

A Continental Youth Capacity Building Workshop on Girls in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) for Gender-Responsive Education has officially opened in Nairobi, Kenya. Running from 25th –28th November 2025, the workshop is held under the theme: “Empowering Girls in STEAM: Innovating for Inclusive and Gender-Responsive Education in Africa.”

At the session of the 7th #AUEUSummit in Luanda this afternoon, H.E Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, the Chairperson of the AU Commission underscored Africa’s emergence as a global growth powerhouse; with abundant markets, manpower & resources, & a growing role across the global value chain.

He called for balanced trade partnerships, greater European #investment in Africa’s mineral transformation, & the lifting of #tariff & non-tariff barriers limiting access to EU markets. He also urged a stronger multilateralism rooted in equality & shared interests.
