The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Member States of the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) will meet on 21st May in their 3rd Ministerial Meeting, where they will take stock of progress on the Joint Vision for 2030 for a renewed Partnership, that was adopted at the 6th EU-AU Summit in 2022. The meeting paves the way for the 7th AU-EU Summit, which will take place in Africa, in 2025, marking 25 years of the partnership.

H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the AU Commission, was warmly received by H.E. Mr António Luís Santos da Costa, President of the European Council, this afternoon at the EU Offices in Brussels ahead of the 3rd AU-EU Ministerial Meeting taking place tomorrow, Wednesday 21 May.

The two leaders held constructive discussions on the strong AU-EU strategic partnership, now in its 25th year, underscoring shared priorities across peace & security, trade & development, infrastructure, climate resilience, & humanitarian action.

The African Union's first Debt Conference took place from 12th-14th May, in Lomé, Togo, bringing together Heads of State, senior policymakers, financial experts, and international partners to engage in high-level dialogue on Africa's debt challenges and long-term sustainability. Against the backdrop of rising debt vulnerabilities across the continent, the three-day conference served as a platform for African leaders to articulate a unified, forward-looking vision for responsible borrowing, enhanced transparency, and equitable global financial cooperation.

The African Union Commission, in collaboration with the Government of Ethiopia and the Institute for Security Studies, convened a High-Level Policy Dialogue on the Development and Regulation of AI in Africa in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The dialogue brought together participants from over 40 African countries, including Heads of State and Government, Ministers, AU Commissioners, diplomats, civil society, academia, and private sector leaders.

On the sidelines of the 34th Arab League Summit, the Chairperson of the AU Commission H.E. @ymahmoudali engaged in bilateral talks with H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary General of the OIC. The two principals agreed to strengthen institutional cooperation and coordinate efforts in pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity in Africa and the Islamic world.
