Journalists are invited to cover the visit to the African Union of H.E Tran Dai Quang, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam , on Friday 24 August 2018, at 4:00pm.

The President of Vietnam and his delegation will be received at the AU Headquarters by H.E Mrs. Amira Elfadil, Commissioner for Social Affairs of the African Union (AU), in her capacity as the Acting Chairperson of the AU Commission, on behalf of H.E Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the AUC.

Statement by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on the Occasion of World Humanitarian Day

The African Union Commission joins the world in marking World Humanitarian Day on 19 August 2018. This year, we are focusing global attention on the very essence of humanitarianism by highlighting protection of civilians.

In some places across the continent, parties to conflict target civilians and those who come to their aid in flagrant contravention of international humanitarian and human rights law. This must stop. It is callous and immoral. It is also inhumane and un-African. Civilians are #NotATarget!

African Union mourns the death of Aretha Franklin

Washington, August 16, 2018- The African Union Permeant Representative to the United States of America, Dr Arikana Chihombori-Quoa, has expressed profound sadness at the death of global music icon Aretha Franklin, who passed away today at her home in Detroit, USA.

Ms Franklin had batted Pancreatic Cancer for a long time and was visited by dozens of luminaries in the last few days of her life. She was surrounded by family and close friends at the time of her death.
