Addis Ababa, 14 June 2019: Amb. Kwesi Quartey, Deputy Chair of the African Union Commission (AUC), held a meeting with the US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Mr. Tibor Nagy, and the US Special Envoy to the Sudan, Amb. Donald Booth. The two were accompanied by the US Ambassador to Ethiopia, Mary Beth Leonard.

The two sides exchanged views on the events unfolding in Sudan and deliberated on how the US could complement the efforts of the AU to facilitate the process of restoring calm to the country.

Following the recent outbreak of Ebola cases reported in Uganda, The African Union (AU) is collaborating with the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uganda to mobilise support to ensure adequate response and implementation of prevention and control measures, including deployment of senior experts from the AU’s Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).

Francophone African academic institutions, officials from the African Union Commission (AUC) and three GMES and Africa lead consortia, have been discussing ways to support the implementation of the training strategy of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security and Africa (GMES and Africa). The discussions were held at a workshop organized by the AUC in collaboration with the Universitaire de Recherche et d’Application en Télédétection (CURAT) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Through the AU Commission’s Directorate of Information and Communication, the Union has enhanced its internal and external communications functions, to increase efficiency and connectivity with African citizenry and stakeholders, in making available up-to-date information on the implementation and impact of Agenda 2063 projects, programmes and activities.
