African Union Commission appoints AU Permanent Representative to the USA

Washington DC, 1 February 2017: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC), H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has appointed Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao, a Ghanaian national, as the Permanent Representative of the African Union Representational Mission to the United States of America.  She is the second Permanent Representative to occupy the position. She replaces Amb. Amina Salum Ali, who held the position from 2007, when the AU Mission was opened.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia 31 January 2017:- The Stone laying ceremony of the CISSA Headquarters took place in Addis-Ababa on Tuesday, January 31st, 2017 in the sideline of the 28th AU Summit holding at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The construction site of the CISSA head office was graciously offered by the Government of Ethiopia to host the CISSA Secretariat among others.

African Union congratulates Cameroon for AFCON 2017 title

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – 6 February 2017: The outgoing Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission H. E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, has congratulated the government and people of Cameroon, particularly the national soccer team, the Indomitable Lions, for claiming the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2017) title.

In a statement at the end of the hotly contested final match, H.E. Dr. Dlamini Zuma wrote, “Congratulations to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon for a spectacular AFCON 2017 victory.”

Expert workshop Meeting on Annex to the African Union Lomé Charter

The workshop aimed at gathering a wide range of experts and stakeholders from all sectors and to deliberate on a wide range of maritime economy issues from all regions and sectorsincluding practitioners, academia, private sector and key stakeholders.

Two New Judges Appointed to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights

Arusha, 3 February, 2017: At the just-ended 28th Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from 30-31 January 2017, appointed two Judges to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights for a period of six years.

The Judges are Hon. Justice Bensaoula Chafika from Algeria and Hon. Justice Chizumila Rose Tujilane from Malawi. The two are replacing Hon. Justice Fatsah Ouguergouz (Algeria) and Hon. Justice Duncan Tambala (Malawi) whose term came to an end on 5 September, 2016.
