Durban, South Africa, 10 October 2025 – The African Union Commission and the Department of Electricity of South Africa launched the Africa Energy Efficiency Facility (AfEEF), a flagship legacy of South Africa’s G20 Presidency envisioned to serve as a continental mechanism to mobilise financing, harmonise policies, and scale up energy efficiency projects across Africa.

The AfEEF initiative, which is hosted by the AUC through the African Energy Commission (AFREC) has been launched during the G20 Energy Transitions Working Group (ETWG) meeting in Durban, Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa.

“I warmly congratulate our nine African teams whose outstanding performances have brought pride and joy to the entire continent,” said the Chairperson. “Their success demonstrates Africa’s growing strength, skill, and unity on the global stage.”

At this afternoon's 1306th session of the AU Peace & Security Council on #Madagascar, AU Chairperson reaffirmed the Union’s unwavering stance: respect for constitutional order & peaceful resolution of disputes.
He condemned any unconstitutional change of government, urged a coordinated AU–SADC–IOC response, & called for a fact-finding mission to guide the AU’s next steps.

“The rule of law must prevail over the rule of force. Our approach is grounded in law and dialogue", he added.
