H.E President William Samoei Ruto (PhD), President of the Republic of Kenya and the African Union Champion on Institutional Reform. H.E. Ruto was appointed during the 37th Assembly of Heads of State and Government in February 2024 to champion the AU Institutional Reform process taking over from the H.E Paul Kagame, President of the Republic of Rwanda who led the implementation of the reform process since 2016.

Johannesburg, 04 August 2025 –The African Energy Commission (AFREC) has concluded a three-day technical training workshop in South Africa aimed at enhancing the country’s capacity to compile and manage comprehensive national energy statistics, a significant step toward strengthening energy data management in Southern Africa.
The Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, participated in the Joint EAC-SADC Summit with the Panel of Facilitators on the DRC Peace Process in Nairobi today. The Summit was co-chaired by President William Ruto of Kenya, who and President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe.
The Summit endorsed the merger of EAC, SADC & AU peace structures into one Joint Mechanism, and adopted key frameworks to guide inclusive mediation. It was decided that the AU coordinate & ensure alignment of all regional and international efforts under an African-led process.
As climate extremes tighten their grip on Africa, drought remains the continent’s most widespread and persistent climate hazard. It creeps slowly, often unnoticed, and yet it exacts a devastating toll on crops, water supplies, pastoral systems, lives, livelihoods, and entire economies. The African Union Commission (AUC), in partnership with the Government of the Republic of Namibia and UNICEF, officially launched the “End Learning Poverty for All in Africa (ELPAF)” campaign on July 31, 2025. The campaign launch took place during the third and final day of a high-level continental conference focused on accelerating foundational learning outcomes across Africa.

The African Union Commission (AUC), through its Pan African Institute for Education for Development (AU-IPED), in partnership with the Association for Educational Assessment in Africa (AEAA), the Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report, the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS), and the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA), is advancing the validation of a continent-wide framework aimed at transforming how learning outcomes are measured and addressed across African Union (AU) Member States.
Educators from over 20 African Union Member States are currently participating in a capacity-building workshop on School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV), taking place in Yaoundé under the theme: “Empowering Educators to End SRGBV through Teacher Leadership and Advocacy”. The training is to be held from July 28–31, 2025, in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
