The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, has learned with deep sorrow of the passing of H.E. Amara Essy of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire.

On behalf of the African Union Commission and the entire African Union family, the Chairperson conveys his heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, as well as to the family and loved ones of the late H.E. Amara Essy.

In line with the African Union’s mandate to promote peace, security and stability on the continent, the Bureau of the Assembly of the African Union held its First virtual Meeting on 5th April 2025. The meeting was convened and chaired by H.E. João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and current Chairperson of the African Union.

Speaking at the High-Level Panel on Leadership in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the Global AI Summit on Africa, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, emphasized the AU's commitment to positioning Africa as a leader in the global AI revolution.
