Addis Ababa, Ethiopia,14 April 2025- The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, expresses deep concern over escalating violence in Sudan, particularly around El Fasher, North Darfur, including credible reports of intensified attacks in Zamzam and Abu Shouk camps. These assaults have resulted in the deaths of civilians, including children and humanitarian workers, an unacceptable and grave violation of international humanitarian and human rights law.

The AU urges stronger policy coherence and Mult-sectoral approach to transform Africa’s Agrifood systems within the context of the CAADP Kampala Declaration and 10 Year Strategy and Action Plan (2026 -2035).

The African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and the Agriculture and Rural Development Directorate of the Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment  of the African Union Commission convened the Permanent Secretaries of Agriculture Leadership Dialogue in Lusaka Zambia from 10-12 April 2025.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission received H.E. Mr. Tsutomu Nakagawa, Ambassador of Japan to the African Union, for a productive exchange on strengthening AU–Japan relations. They discussed deepening bilateral cooperation, Japan’s continued support to AU, including peace and security efforts, and preparations for the upcoming TICAD Summit.

They agreed to establish a high-level policy dialogue mechanism to align Japan’s support with the AU’s strategic priorities and to identify concrete areas for enhanced collaboration.

The Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. @ymahmoudali, met with H.E. Niels Annen, Parliamentary State Secretary to the German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, to advance AU–Germany cooperation.

Discussions focused on strengthening strategic partnerships, including Germany’s valued support to the Africa CDC, peace and security initiatives, and regional integration efforts. The Chairperson commended Germany’s commitment to both multilateral engagement through the AU & robust bilateral cooperation with AU Member States.

The African Union (AU) and France Volontaires (FV) have formalized their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance collaboration in promoting volunteerism and strengthening the capacity of AU Member States to develop a robust volunteer ecosystem.
