Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: 29 July 2020: The African Union is launching its Audit Recommendations Tracking System (ARTS) digital platform.

ARTS is a digital platform that would fast-track implementation of all audit recommendations, enhance the overall effectiveness and efficiency of management planning, monitoring and reporting on actions taken on AU audit recommendations.

The system is user-friendly and can be easily accessed from any location by authorized users with access to the internet.

The speedy implementation of commitments to Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (GEWE) has yet again been emphasized in a Declaration and Call for Action between the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). The Declaration and call for action is an outcome statement of the AUC, Women, Gender and Development Directorate (WGDD) meeting with CSOs, to deliberate on scaling up actions to address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on gender-specific concerns.

The African Union’s Labour Migration Advisory Committee (LMAC) last week convened a virtual conference where health policy experts discussed ways to better manage the labour market for health workers in Africa. This was the last of three online meetings in which LMAC examined changes in labour migration governance in Africa in the context of disruptions caused by the coronavirus.

Addis Ababa – Ethiopia. July 28, 2020. The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Benin to the African Union, H.E. Mr. Timothee Odjo called on the Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mr. Kwesi Quartey to bid him farewell following the decision by the Government of Benin to close its mission in Addis Ababa.
 
The Deputy Chairperson commended Ambassador Odjo for his contributions to debates and the dexterity he applied to his work in the Permanent Representative Committee (PRC) sessions. 
 

UK Foreign Minister for Africa calls on the Deputy Chairperson of the AUC

Addis Ababa - Ethiopia. July 27, 2020. The Deputy Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Mr. Kwesi Quartey, received the United Kingdom Minister for Africa, H.E. Mr. James Duddridge (MP) at the AUC on a familiarization tour and to introduce himself to the leadership of the Commission. 
 
After exchanging pleasantries, H.E the Deputy Chairperson expressed gratitude to the Government of UK for committing to donate $20 Million towards the AU COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund and UK’s continuous collaboration with the African Union.

African Union Launches a new program on Migration and Health

The nexus between migration and health is conspicuously apparent at this time of corona virus which permeates all spheres of life. The situation of migrants and refugees in Africa is exacerbated by the pervasive spectre of conflicts, climate change and impact of irregular migration. This, compounded by recent outbreaks of illnesses declared, the public health emergencies of global concern and pandemics such as COVID-19, presents Africa with a huge fast-paced challenge requiring dynamism all response approaches shaped by African Union Member States.
