Pan African Parliament and Africa CDC explore enhanced collaboration to address health emergencies on the continent.

The Africa Center for Disease Control (Africa CDC) has committed to enhanced and continued collaboration with the Pan African Parliament (PAP) to ensure African Union policies and decisions on health emergencies are formulated, advocated and implemented. Speaking at a capacitation programme for PAP legislators in Midrand, South Africa, Dr. Lul Riek, Africa CDC Regional Coordinator, noted that the synergies for cooperation have come at an opportune time as the African continent moves into the post COVID-19 era.

The Chairperson condemns the acts of violence, and urges all stakeholders to refrain from further violence and engage in constructive dialogue, within the parameters of the democratic process, to maintain the stability that Sierra Leone has enjoyed since the end of civil war in 2002.

African Women Solidarity Mission to Kenya

The African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) has deployed a solidarity mission to Kenya from 3 to 15 August 2022, to support efforts by Kenyan women, promote their participation in leadership and amplify their voices in conflict prevention for peaceful democratic elections.

The mission will be engaging with various stakeholders including: the Kenya Independent Election and Boundaries Commission, National Cohesion and Integration Commission, Political Parties, UN agencies and women rights organizations to understand the electoral context and initiatives for peaceful elections.

Addis Ababa, 7 August 2022: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat strongly condemns the continued air strike attacks by Israel on Gaza that have killed more than 30 Palestinian civilians, including 6 children.

The Chairperson reiterates that targeting of civilians and the continued illegal occupation by Israeli security forces of the Occupied Territories, are in stark violation of international law, and complicate the search for a just and lasting solution.
