The Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2020) Postponed due to COVID-19

Cairo, 29 April 2020: – In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), the African Union (AU) and the Government of Rwanda have decided to postpone by one year the second Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF2020) initially set to take place from 1 to 7 September 2020 in Kigali, Rwanda.

This decision was endorsed by the IATF2020 Advisory Council during its sixth meeting held virtually on 26 April 2020, after careful assessment of the situation.

African Union to distribute more COVID19 supplies to its member states after receiving the third consignment from the Jack Ma Foundation

The 55 member states of the African Union will soon receive further medical supplies for their COVID19 response, after the arrival in Addis Ababa today, of the third batch from the Jack Ma Foundation.

The supplies, weighing 125 tonnes, consist of 4.6 million single use surgical masks, 500 000 civilian use KN95 masks: 100 000 medical grade N95 masks: 200,000 pieces of protective clothing: 200,000 face shields: 2,000 thermometer guns: 500,000 medical gloves: 300 ventilators: 500,000 each of swabs, extraction and detection tests: and 100 infrared thermo detection machines.

The Africa Union Commission invites all member states of the Africa Union to observe the 2020 World Immunization week being observed under the theme “Vaccines work for All’. The World Health Organization campaign places focus on vaccines and on the people who develop and deliver vaccines, particularly nurses and midwives.

With COVID-19 transcending borders and spreading at an alarming rate, this pandemic serves as a valuable reminder that we are one world, one humanity. In Africa, COVID19 has placed Health, Health systems, Primary Health Care and Universal Health Care Access squarely on the agenda of Health and non-Health actors at the highest policy levels of the continent. The pandemic has overwhelmed advanced health facilities and experts predict it could devastate our fragile health systems as the solution - a vaccine is still many months away.

Today, the African Union Commission joins the world to celebrate the World Malaria Day by declaring the theme of the day: “Zero Malaria Starts with Me” and committing to step up the fight to end this deadly disease.

The theme is inspired by a continental campaign called Zero Malaria Starts With Me led by the Commission in partnership with the RBM Partnership to End Malaria to strengthen the fight against malaria through increased and sustained investment and political will in Africa. The Campaign is active in 14 AU Member States.

A teleconference session of African Ministers of Finance of F15 and the Task Force Ministers was convened on April 09, 2020 to reflect and combine efforts in providing a collective and coordinated response to the pandemic crisis.

The following Member States, Members of F15 and Task Force, took part in the teleconference: Cameroon, Chad, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda and South Africa. The teleconference was chaired by H.E. M. Tahir Hamid Nguilin, Minister of Finance and Budget of the Republic of Chad.
