The African Union Commission (AUC) was invited by the UK Department for International Trade to a webinar on ways technology can support Africa’s COVID-19 response and recovery.

The virtual meeting was chaired by HM Trade Commissioner for Africa, Emma Wade-Smith, and had AU Commissioner Dr.Amani Abou-Zeid, leading UK firms as well as British and African SMEs , as participants. The webinar discussed the challenges and opportunities of Covid-19 crisis in Africa and explored ways partnerships with tech firms can support economic recovery.

H.E. Ambassador Josefa Sacko, African Union Commissioner (AUC) for Rural Economy and Agriculture on May 14th, briefed the Permanent Representatives Committee (PRC) on measures being taken by the Department to mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on food security in Africa.

The brief centered on the status of the food system before COVID-19, the impact of Covid-19 on the food system and the response by her Department in mitigating the pandemic.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 18 May 2020: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission,Moussa Faki Mahamat welcomes the news of the landmark arrest of Félicien Kabuga, considered to be the financier of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda in 1994. Kabuga was arrested in France on 16 May 2020 after 23 years on the run from justice.

May 12th, 2020; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: The African Union Commission (AUC) and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) co-convened the 1st meeting of the Taskforce on COVID-19 impact on Food Security and Nutrition in Africa.
The taskforce was launched to implement the recommendations adopted by African Ministers of Agriculture on food security and nutrition outlining priorities of the sector as part of the continental response to COVID-19.
