Working Visit of the Chairperson of the Commission to West Africa
23 January, 2022, Addis Ababa: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, began a mission to West Africa today, starting in Accra, Ghana, where he will hold consultations with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana and current Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
He will continue his mission to Bamako, Mali, where he will hold consultations with the authorities of the Malian Transition and political and social actors in the country
The 43rd Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC) kicks off today
The virtual 43rd Ordinary Session of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee (PRC) kicked off today, ahead of the 35th Ordinary Session of the AU Assembly Meeting, scheduled to take place on 5-6 February 2022 under the theme “Building Resilience in Nutrition on the African Continent: Accelerate the Human Capital, Social and Economic Development”. The PRC session started with a minute of silence in memory of the victims of Covid-19 among which some AU Member State embassies lost diplomates and collaborators while the AU Commission lost staff members.

The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, welcomes the successful conclusion of the National Consultative Council (NCC) Summit among Somali leaders, which took place from 3rd to 9th December in Mogadishu.
The Chairperson is encouraged by the decision of the NCC to conclude free and transparent Lower House elections by 25th February in full respect of the 17 September 2020, 27 May 2021 agreements and the election procedures of 01 October 2020 and August 24, 2021.

Chairperson of the African Union Commission condemns the killing by armed bandits in Northwest Nigeria
Addis Ababa, 11 January 2022: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, strongly condemns the killing of scores of innocent people and injuries of several others in recent attacks by armed bandits in Anka and Bukkuyum Local Government Areas of Zamfara State, Nigeria. He commiserates with the families of the deceased and the Government of Nigeria, and prays for the speedy recovery of the wounded.

Addis Ababa, 8 January 2022: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, was pleased to learn of the release of political opposition figures detained in Ethiopia.
The Chairperson welcomes this important gesture of appeasement of the political situation in Ethiopia. He sincerely hopes that it will be the trigger for a political process, paving the way for the implementation of a genuinely inclusive National Dialogue process for the peaceful and consensual solution to the political and institutional problems facing the Federation.
Statement by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on the Latest Developments in Sudan
Addis Ababa, 3 January 2022: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, is deeply concerned by the latest developments in the political situation in Sudan, particularly the resignation of Prime Minister Dr Abdalla Hamdok, and the ongoing protests and violence in the country.
The Chairperson called on all national civilian and military actors to intensify their efforts to find a path towards consensual approaches and a peaceful resolution to the crisis, in conformity with the transitional political agreements.
