N’Djamena, 29 April 2021: The African Union Commission, with the participation of the five (5)) Members of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union (AU), as well as the Democratic Republic of Congo in its capacity of Chairperson of the AU, arrived in N’Djamena, Chad today on a seven-day Fact-Finding Mission, from 29 April to 6 May 2021. The mission is led by the AU Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, H.E. Ambassador Bankole Adeoye, along with the PSC Chairperson for the month of April 2021, H.E. Ambassador M. Idriss Farah of the Republic of Djibouti.

Addis Ababa, 20 April 2021: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat commends the exhaustive fact-finding report on the role of France in connection with the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda, commissioned by the Government of Rwanda in 2017 from the law firm of Levy Firestone Muse LLP, and released on 19 April 2021 after submission to the Rwandan Cabinet.

This report builds on Rwanda’s Mucyo Report of 2007, with a new focus on the French political officials who “enabled a foreseeable genocide” in Rwanda in 1994.

Statement on the passing away of H.E. Idriss Déby, President of The Republic of Chad

The African Union expresses its deepest condolences to the family and the people of The Republic of Chad following the untimely passing of H.E. President Idriss Déby.

The late President Déby played a key role in promoting the African Union’s Agenda to promote peace and security and was an ardent supporter of the Union’s efforts to create an environment of security and stability, especially within the Sahel region.

19 April 2021, Addis Ababa: The Chairperson of the African Union Commission H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, accompanied by the Commissioner of Political Affairs, Peace & Security H.E. Amb Bankole Adeoye and Social Affairs Commissioner H.E. Amira El-Fadil, concluded a two-day working visit to Libya today.

During the visit, the Chairperson and his delegation held extensive discussions with Dr Mohamed El-Menfi, Chairman of the Presidency Council of Libya and Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, Prime Minister of the government of national unity.
