The African Union has embarked on communication, visibility and branding activities that have expanded and strengthened its outreach. Through the AU Commission’s Directorate of Information and Communication, the Union has enhanced its internal and external communications functions, to increase efficiency and connectivity with African citizenry and stakeholders, in making available up-to-date information on the implementation and impact of Agenda 2063 projects, programmes and activities.

Nairobi, Kenya, June 12, 2019: Legislators from the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) of the East African Community (EAC), and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Parliament, have convened in Nairobi to deliberate on the acceleration of the ratification process and entry into force of the Protocol relating to the free movement of persons in Africa before the end of year 2020.

Africa has made commendable progress in securing deposits of instruments of ratification on the Agreement Establishing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The agreement officially entered into force on the 30th of March 2019 with twenty four (24) instruments of ratification deposited with the African Union Commission. The African Union is setting the pace for the launch of the operational phase of the operational phase of the continental market in July this year. To build on this momentum and deepen the continental economic integration, the African Union Ministers of Trade (AMOT) held a two-day meeting in preparation for the upcoming Extraordinary Summit on AfCFTA in Niamey, Niger.
