Addis Ababa, 2 May 2019: The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat, takes note of the preliminary findings of the AU Mission that observed the Parliamentary Elections of 28 April 2019 in Benin. The Mission noted that the elections took place in a context marked by a breakdown of consensus among the political stakeholders, thus undermining the open, inclusive and competitive nature that has traditionally characterized electoral processes in Benin.

African Union Commision Hosts 2019 “Girls in ICT” Day

Addis Ababa, 25April 2019: The African Union Commission jointly with the United Nations International Telecommunication Union (ITU) -Regional Office for Africa, hosted the global celebration of Girls in ICT Day 2019 with participation of more than 250 high schoolsGirls from Addis Ababa and 10 high schools Girls from Tanzania at the AU Headquarters.

The 2019 Girls in ICT daybrought together ministers, ambassadors, representatives of diplomatic corps and international organizations including UNICEF, UNESCO, UNHCR and UNDP.

AfCFTA Agreement secures minimum threshold of 22 ratification as Sierra Leone and the Saharawi Republic deposit instruments.

African Union Launches the Transitional Justice Policy

Sharm el Sheikh, 25 April 2019: The African Union Commission (AUC) launches the African Union Transitional Justice Policy (AUTJP) at the 64th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights. The policy was recently adopted by the Heads of State and Government at the 32nd Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Union on 12 February 2019 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

African Union considers the World Malaria Day an opportunity to highlight the need for continued investment and sustained political commitment to malaria prevention and control, and, therefore, advocates for an increase in external and domestic funding for malaria elimination; and increased awareness and ownership at the community level.
